Stockholm is a city that celebrates its rich culinary culture with a delightful fusion of traditional Swedish flavours and contemporary culinary innovation. The city is home to a thriving food scene that ranges from classic dishes like herring and meatballs to more modern, sustainable dining concepts.Stockholm’s food scene reflects the city’s long-standing connection to both the natural world and a rich cultural heritage. Swedish cuisine is built around local, seasonal ingredients, with a heavy emphasis on fresh fish, root vegetables, berries, dairy, and meats. The city’s location by the water also makes it the perfect destination for seafood lovers, particularly when it comes to herring, smoked salmon, and shrimp.
Here are my recommendations for special food events that are worth the visit if the dates meet your travel days.
Grönsakshallen Sorunda
Sorunda is one of Stockholm's premier suppliers of high-quality fresh produce, specialising in a wide range of fruits, vegetables, and gourmet food products. Located just south of Stockholm, in Sorunda, this family-owned company has earned a reputation for excellence in the food industry. Grönsakshallen Sorunda not only provides top-notch produce to restaurants, cafes, and food retailers across Sweden, but also caters directly to consumers who are looking for the best ingredients for their home cooking.
Being such a large supplier group in Stockholm, they often hosts events to showcase their products and also comes up with activities in their farms. I had the opportunities to attend one of their events and it was chef's dreamland with ingredients everywhere with the farmers themselves being present. Also the community that comes are Michelin starred chefs, and well-known restauranteur and foodies from Stockholm. A place for great food and amazing opportunity to network.
